We are in 2021, the year designated by the European Commission as the European year of Rail; its purpose is to contribute to the objective of the European Green Deal of attaining climate neutrality by 2050. A series of events, campaigns and initiatives in 2021 will promote rail as a sustainable, innovative and safe mode of transport.
Today we are experiencing a unique opportunity in the development of rail freight transport in Europe and particularly in the Iberian Peninsula, with new rail operators, the increase of traffic, the greater recognition of importance of the Iberian-gauge network with the improvement of the existing infrastructures.
At Equimodal we consider that in order for Europe to be the first climate neutral continent in 2050, priority must be given to reduction of greenhouse gas emissions associated with transport, as these emissions represent 30% of the total.
Equimodal is contributing actively to the initiative of CO2 reduction designing and manufacturing intermodal solutions that allow the real transfer of freight transport from road to rail.
